Some yards just get beat up over time. Pet traffic, compaction, poor drainage - it adds up, and eventually you're left with bare, muddy patches that make the whole backyard feel unusable. That's exactly what we were working with here.
Before we could seed anything, the ground needed attention. We came in with fresh grading and topsoil to get the surface right. That prep work matters more than most people realize. Hydroseed applied to rough, uneven ground doesn't perform nearly as well as when it's laid onto a properly graded base with good soil contact.
Once the prep was done, we applied hydroseed across the problem areas. The teal-green slurry you see covering the ground is the hydroseed mix - it contains seed, mulch, and a tackifier that holds everything in place while germination gets going. It's a reliable method for getting grass established fast, especially in spots that have struggled to hold seed in the past.
The goal here was simple - give this family a backyard that can actually handle everyday life again. Kids, dogs, and regular use shouldn't be off-limits because the lawn can't keep up. With the grading corrected and hydroseed down, the lawn has a solid foundation to come back thick and healthy.
Bare or muddy spots don't fix themselves. Whether it's a high-traffic area, a shaded corner, or the whole backyard, hydroseeding is one of the most effective ways to get grass established without the cost or hassle of sod.
